What's your relationship with Trust? 🐺 (02.07.23)

In one of my first shamanic journeys, I saw a white door with the word Trust written on it. At the time, it represented both a home-coming, and the beginning of a journey. It's funny how such journeys can stay with you over decades. For many of us, our capacity to trust ourselves and others has been wounded through life experiences. One of the deep teachings I received from the spirits is a shift from thinking "all will be well", to trusting that "all is well."

If we view life as an ongoing journey of learning, then every experience we have is simply that: a chance to learn and grow. Whatever is on my plate, in terms of physical pain, emotional upheaval, mental pressure or stress, when I trust that it is simply a step in my unfolding growth process, my inner state shifts from a 'learn to bear this, have to fix, find a solution, make a decision' to 'how can I include myself in this experience? How can I soften in this, while I'm growing?'

We stop 'buying future tickets', as a friend of mine says, projecting our 'long awaited happiness' to an anticipated future date, and instead we sink into an experience of presence, exploring a situation from inside out. Often you'll be surprised how the sinking in and through an experience already creates space and lightness, and opens a doorway to transform the situation.

This is not to say that we stay 'static' in unhealthy situations, but underlines the old wisdom of 'the only way out is through...' I'd love to hear what this view evokes in you. Will you share some of your thoughts in the community? Below you'll find some further questions for reflection.

Reflection Questions

  1. What does the word 'trust' invoke in you?

  2. On a sliding scale from 1-10, how trusting do you feel in general?

  3. Then, have a look at your relationship with trust in the following areas: Trust in your body; in your inner healing capacity; in the unfolding journey of your soul; in others (in general or specific others close to you); *in the structures around you (professional, financial, cultural).

  4. Which concrete things can you always trust in (things like gravity, the earth under your feet, sun rising on a new day...)?

  5. Meditate, journal, dance or walk with the question how you can cultivate an attitude of trust without naivety.

  6. If you know how to make a shamanic journey, perhaps you can ask to meet a power animal who can support you while growing this skill.
