Electronic Travel Authorisation
Important: these days you officially need an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) to visit the UK. It doesn't seem strictly enforced, but I find it's better to have it in place just in case. It costs 20£ and the easiest to organise this is online or with the UK ETA App - look for the one with the little crown in the logo:
Venue Address & Local Travel
Address: The Farm at Avebury, Galteemore Farm, Beckhampton SN8 1FE
Book your trains: National Rail or Trainline. For Pewsey-Paddionton you can directly use Great Western Railway (GWR). For those used to Dutch Railway: you have to book your train in advance! Usually there are easy apps you can do this with.
Book your coach: National Express.
What is the best Airport?
If you're coming by plane, there are three airports you could use. In terms of easy onward transportation, choose:
London Heathrow – easiest overall
Bristol – very good if flight options suit
London Gatwick - workable, but longer (haven't included below)
Onward travel from London HeathrowFor both trains and taxis, the earlier you book the better!
Option A: Taxi all the way (Easiest)
Time: 1h 20m to 1h 45m
One way cost: £140–£220
Direct pick up from Heathrow → drop off at The Farm, book anytime
Option B: Coach + local bus (Cheapest)
Time: 2h 10m to 2h 40m
One way cost: £20
Coach from Heathrow → Swindon, runs roughly every few hours, takes 1h 20m, costs £6–£15. Get off at Swindon Bus Station.
Local bus from Swindon to Avebury/Beckhampton, runs frequent weekdays / hourly Sunday, takes 30–40 min, costs £3–£6 (check if you need cash for this!). Get off at Avebury Red Lion stop, then I can pick you up!
Option C: Train + Taxi (Good compromise, better if you book in advance)
Time: 2,5h to 3h
One way cost: £120 + local taxi costs
Route 1: Heathrow → Reading → Pewsey (1 transfer)
Heathrow Express / Elizabeth Line / RailAir / coach connection toward Reading
Train Reading → Pewsey
OR
Route 2: Heathrow → Paddington → Pewsey (1 transfer)
Heathrow Express or Elizabeth Line to Paddington
Great Western Railway train to Pewsey
In both cases >>From Pewsey → taxi to Farm, 20 min £25–£40
Onward travel from Bristol AirportUnlike Heathrow, Bristol has no rail station at the airport, so road transfer is part of the journey.
Option A: Taxi all the way
Time: 1h 15m to 1h 40m
One way cost: £120–£180 + local taxi costs
Direct pick up from airport → drop off at The Farm, book anytime
Option B: Airport bus + train + taxi (probably 2 transfers)
Time estimate: 2h 20m to 3h 15m
One way cost: £35–£75 + local taxi costs
Bristol Airport Flyer bus → Bristol Temple Meads
Train eastbound → Pewsey
From Pewsey → taxi to Farm, 20 min £25–£40
